This publication introduces a theme that is largely uncharted territory for the uninitiated to an even greater extent than architecture. The author offers a popular and attractive account of the main developments in one century of Dutch urban planning. Without losing sight of the invisible part of urban planning -ideas, memos, processes, legislation and rules and regulations- the emphasis is on what you see: photographs of implemented plans, scale replicas and easy to follow (perspective) drawings, which present an attractive picture. The book is a follow-up to the author's successful publication 20th Century Architecture in the Netherlands. The formula is the same.
