Finally after 10 weeks of trying to sort out a friendly with LBU we where placed in the same cup group together. This was our first UKTFCL Cup match, both teams started both maps with 6 players, we did have 8 but
unfortunately LBU could only manage 6.
The first map was Shutdown, due to only using 6 players we had to make a few changes to our defence which we hoped where the correct ones. Both teams went searching for that early break through but where met with death, though LBU did get the flag on
their second attack. They got it into the open but never managed to cap it and it returned, shortly after we managed to get their flag and
eventually cap it. Our offence was pushing hard trying to establish a lead and soon we where 20-0 up. LBU where still pushing us hard with some of the best conc jumping I have seen since I started playing TFC, they did manage to cap a flag and make it 20-10, the race was on. For the final minutes of the map both teams where pressing hard, LT managed the breakthrough though and another soon after capping that one to make the scores 40-10. But back came LBU again to make it 40-20, our attack gave a final push to cap once more to end the map 50-20.
The second map was 2Fort, again with only 6 players we used a more confined defence instead of our normal layered one. Both teams went in search of the flag and got it only for LBU to be killed in the basement and LT to be killed on the spiral, it
wasn't long though before we capped and took a 10-0 lead. We capped quiet freely in the early stages, whilst LBU where finding it harder to get past our defence. I did ask our defence when the score was 40-0 if they had 4 on defence as LBU's attack seemed light, to my bemusement they did but obviously
I wasn't complaining. We where 80 points in front before LBU managed to cap, a couple of minutes earlier they had committed 3 players to offence causing us some problems with their group attacks. But after capping they seemed to go back to 4 on defence. The map finished 110-10 to LT in a map that amazed me that LBU went on defence instead of attack knowing they had to win that map to draw.
A most enjoyable game for us at least. If both teams had 8 players the story might have been different and I cant believe that was a true LBU performance, but we take the win and thank LBU for the match.
