1. Women and Development Workshop

Objectives of Workshop.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• increase their awareness of the driving and restraining forces of culture on women and development issues
• identify major cultural factors influencing success and failures of women in development projects
• use cultural factors to solve problems of women in development
• highlight the cultural differences among nations, regions, organizations, genders, occupation, groups and individuals
• share relevance knowledge, strategies and experiences from different cultural backgrounds, countries and regions in relations to women, gender and development issues.

Course Contents: the course contents will include the following:

• culture dimensions to women and development
• impact of culture on women in development programs
• qualities of women in development issues
• women and leadership qualities in development
• women, environment, management and mobilization impact of structural adjustment on women and development
• women, environment and sustainable development
• role of government and financial institutions in women and development
• research; economics and sociocultural analysis of development and women issues

Target Audience

This program is open to potential participants having working experience in any field related to women, gender and development programs both at the public and private sector of the economy.

Duration of Training

This training is conducted over a 4 days period starting from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. The training is organized 3 times a year.

Venue

The training is held at the Nairobi, Zimbabwe and Zanzibar Centres.

2. Entrepreneurship Development for Women Trainers

Objectives.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• apply the culture dimensions approach to entrepreneurship training
• discuss the perspectives of women in entrepreneurship development
• develop entrepreneurial skills
• develop venture ideas and prepare economically viable and culturally feasible project plans and business proposals
• acquire managerial and technical skills for managing enterprises of their own
• develop the spirit of self-reliance and assertiveness
• set-up and manage small and medium businesses successfully.

3. Small Business Management Workshop

Objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• understand and appreciate the role of culture in small business management
• discuss the nature and issues in small business management
• apply cultural, financial, human resources, production, marketing skills and computers applications in small and medium business management

Target Audience

Industrialist, Industrial extension officers, management trainers and educators, management consultants and credit officers in banks and other financial institutions.

4. Leadership Training for Women in Management

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• identify ‘growth-negative’ and ‘growth-positive’ culture based factors for effective and appropriate managerial leadership

5. Investment Appraisal Workshop.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

6. Management Consulting Training Workshop

Objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• discuss the essential principles of management consultancy
• acquire the cultural dimensions skills for management consultancy
• acquire skill of management consultancy practices
• diagnose managerial and organizational problems and design effective solution packages
• establish consultancy services unit in the functional areas of management,
• formulation and undertake critical appraisal of the political, economic and cultural policies within the environment.

Contents

The program will focus mainly on:

• cultural dimensions methods for management consulting
• management consulting principles and procedures
• consulting techniques and methodologies in business structures, human resource management, process consulting, management information systems, financial, production and marketing viability and culturally feasibility studies
• setting up and managing consultancy business and/or unit
• practical application of consultancy skills in action

Target Audience

Senior and middle managers, management consultants, graduates in business and administration, economics, accountants, engineers technologist and others who aspire to be consultants.

7. Project Management Workshop.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• acknowledge and appreciate the role of culture in project management
• discuss the concept of project management
• apply analytical methods and process required for planning, selecting, appraising and executing projects
• prepare project financing schedule, budget and cost control management
• determine which project require maximum attention and risks evaluation
• identify the economic viability and cultural feasibility perspectives of projects
• identify the legal implications on project contract and venture issues

• understand national and local political, legal and cultural issues in setting and managing small businesses
• calculate the cultural and economic risks involve in small business development and job creation

• project identification and appraisal methods

9. Annual Conference of Board of Directors and Chief Executives of Public and Private Enterprises

The aim of the conference is to serve as channels for Chief Executives and Boards of Directors of public enterprises to critically examine the ever changing environment in which their organizations operate. At the end of the conference, the recommendations of the participants will be publish and disseminated to relevant authorities for national industrial development.

Objectives

• to provide a forum where the participants can exchange views and ideas on common issues and problems confronting their enterprises with a view to adopting suitable and appropriate strategies for solving them and increase productivity
• to examine the role and responsibilities of chief executives and board of directors with the view to identify areas of over-lapping for streamlining
• to familiarize and broaden the knowledge of participants on the role of government in view of the new economic policies vis-à-vis commercialization and privatization
• to provide participants with the opportunity of making recommendations to government on issues of common interest to them regarding public enterprise management and development
• to acquaint them with the culture dimensions approach to management of public enterprises congruous with local operational environment that makes their organization more responsive to local needs and development.

Target Audience

Chief Executives, Boards of Directors and Government officials who are responsible for supervising national Public Enterprises

Duration of Conference

This conference lasts 3 days and organized annually.

The training is held at the Euro-African Management Research Centre in Maastricht-Holland, Nairobi, Zimbabwe and Zanzibar centres.

Fee: $2050 per participant.

In-Organization Tailor-Made Programs

In addition to the regular courses, the Centres organize special programs tailored to meet the specific needs of Individuals and Organizations. The program can be offered at the Centres Training Complexes in the individual University and Outreaches or at any suitable venue mutually agreed by the Centres and the client.

The Centres approach to in-organization tailor-made programs is by:

• discussion with the clients to reach on objectives and cost
• analysis of the needs of managers and entrepreneurs to be trained
• agreement on training objectives, content and timing
• design of detailed training program and preparation of training materials
• selection of the most suitable consultants to lead the training
• presentation of the course with follow-up assessment visits and submission of reports to client.

The contents of each program depends entirely on the particular needs of the client and can range from the use of open course materials to sessions designed to suit the clients exclusive needs.

Training Methodology.

The Centres staff members and associates have disciplinary background in management and behavioral sciences, and share interest in and concern for public and private sector business policy management. All members of staff and associates seek to combine closeness to the world of practical realities with critical insights from the world of scholarship theory. Apart from the members of the Centres, we can also draw upon the insights and services of colleagues in the Universities and upon partners with other public and private organizations locally and internationally.
